Our project wouldn't be around without your generous support. Thank you!

This patch accompanies the release of our new website and its main focus is to address a few overarching changes that have been slowly brewing for some time now. This will be a long one so get ready and let's jump right in.

First among these is the inclusion of Chunk Energy Scalars into our tooltips. Most of you probably haven't actually heard the term before because we're coining it with this patch but no need to worry, we've got you covered. A Destiny Science blog post went live alongside these changelogs and it explains everything you need to know about this mechanic. You can check out the blog post here!

I'll assume you've read the blog post and understand Chunk Energy Scalars and continue with the changelogs post. Going forward, our tooltips will mention if a perk is affected by the Chunk Energy Scalar system and we'll be adding links to the above blog post alongside each mention of the system.

As this is a systemic change to how we write our tooltips, I'll just list all the affected perks in bulk below to note which category they fall under:

Our next major change with this patch is the separation of Powered and Elemental melee damage. Admittedly, this should probably have happened years ago given things like Combination Blow, Knockout, and other perks in the game have allowed your uncharged melee ability to trigger perks like Heavy Handed.

We're therefore coining the term "Elemental Melee Ability" which is a broader term we can use to refer to any melee attack that has an elemental affinity instead of just being a casual smack from your guardian. This still encompasses the "Powered Melee Ability" term that we'll continue using going forward but does not have the connotation of it requiring a melee ability charge to trigger.

This change will be a bit rougher because the community is used to "powered melee" being equivalent to the newly coined "elemental melee" term. However, as Bungie has expressed intentions to move more perks towards requiring the consumption of a melee ability charge to trigger, we think it's important to make this distinction in our tooltips.

For this transition period of a few months, we'll be adding notes to all perks affected by this change to explain the difference between "Powered" and "Elemental" melee abilities. We also ask you the reader and the community at large to please adopt these terms as well to make the transition easier when these notes will eventually get removed.

Without any further ado, here is the list of perks affected by this change:

  • Will use the new "Elemental Melee Ability" term
    • Weapon Perks
      • Golden Tricorn
      • Grave Robber
      • Well-Rounded
    • Exotic Armor
      • Doom Fang Pauldron
      • Heart of Inmost Light
      • Liar's Handshake
      • Sealed Ahamkara Grasps
    • Fragments
      • Ember of Torches
    • Armor Mods
      • Focusing Strike
      • Heavy Handed
      • Impact Induction
  • Will continue to use the "Powered Melee Ability" term
    • Weapon Perks
      • Blunt Execution Rounds (no added notes as it's not relevant here)
      • One-Two Punch (only mentioning it on a technicality, it mentions "Unpowered Melees" and will be left as such)
    • Exotic Armor
      • An Insurmountable Skullfort
      • Assassin's Cowl
      • Felwinter's Helm (unable to be verified)
      • Severance Enclosure
      • Sunbracers (unable to be verified)
    • Fragments
      • Thread of Propagation (unable to be verified)
      • Whisper of Impetus (unable to be verified)

For perks that are unable to be verified, we'll be omitting the explainer note from their tooltips.

Aside from these two major database-wide overhauls, we have a set of regularly scheduled changes as well for general quality of life and improved accuracy. Here they are:

  • Weapon Perks
    • Explosive Head, Explosive Payload, Timed Payload
      • Noted that they stagger PVE Combatants
      • Removed note that the Payload isn't affected by damage falloff as that should be obvious at this point
    • High Ground
      • Changed height needed to trigger the perk to 2 meters at a base level
      • Changed height needed to trigger the perk to 5 seconds for Primary weapons in PVP only
      • Corrected PVP damage buff values to 5% | 10% | 15% for 1 | 2 | 3 Stacks
  • Exotic Armor
    • Knucklehead Radar
      • Now requires breaking the enemy's Shields to mark in PvP
    • Mk. 44 Stand Asides
      • Reverified that it still prevents Melee Kickstart from triggering
      • Retested Energy Amount granted to each Eligible Melee Ability:
        • Ballistic Slam: 25%
        • Shield Bash: 35%
        • Seismic Strike and Hammer Strike: 40%
      • New tooltip still does not include mentions of the Chunk Energy Scalar system as all values given in it are ability-specific
    • Ophidia Spathe
      • Corrected introduction as it granting a second Melee Charge is not tied to the subclass but to the Melee ability itself being Solar
  • Armor Mods
    • Ammo Finder Mods
      • Added note that Glaive Melee Kills count as Primary Weapon Kills
      • Added note that Winterbite Melee Kills count as Power Weapon Kills
  • Class Abilities
    • Rally and Towering Barricades
      • Added notes that Barricades taunt PVE Combatants in front of them (range of the effect unknown)
